Nagoshi Studio is facing a severe moment even if it just became a thing recently, NetEase decided to cut funding for the game Gang of Dragon, which would be the flagship title that would launch the company forward. This is terrible, as there’s a huge possibility that Nagoshi Studio won’t be able to recover from this damage unlike other companies which have managed to move forward despite the cut. Being a small player in the huge sea of the gaming industry is filled with hardship and trials, but hopefully we can see Gang of Dragon coming to fruition.
Nagoshi Studio’s turbulent times
Considering that the gaming industry is an absolute bloodbath right now, it wouldn’t be weird if news about Nagoshi Studio closing down would become a reality, Bloomberg has confirmed that NetEase has pulled any funding from the company, essentially abandoning them mid development, and Nagoshi is seeking for 44 million dollars to end up covering the cost of the game. This amount feels insane but considering the type of game this is, and the fact that they did hire a real actor for it, then it suddenly feels like some typical triple A game out there.
Gang of Dragon is a game that I personally describe as Yakuza but its only the action parts, there does not seem to be any comedic moment in this journey, only gritty mafioso action and gory fights. Which makes sense because the actor in question, Ma Dong-seok, participated in movies like Train to Busan which are jam packed with action. It is only natural that him in the role of our new character would fit perfectly, and moving to other types of media can prove to be beneficial for the career of an actor. I genuinely wonder if the model of the character will be Mocapped or if it will just be rigged.
