Bungie Adjusts Marathon Currency Following Community Backlash

Bungie is tweaking the economy in its newly released extraction shooter, Marathon, in a clear response to widespread player frustration regarding its microtransaction structure. The developer has announced an increase in the bonus LUX premium currency granted to players purchasing the $10 bundle. While the adjustment is modest—raising the payout from 1,100 to 1,120 LUX—it directly addresses a primary pain point for the community: the inability to purchase desired items without overspending.

The core issue stemmed from the game’s pricing model, where standard runner skins are typically priced at exactly 1,120 LUX. Previously, the $10 currency bundle left players just 20 units short, effectively forcing them to purchase an additional $5 pack to make up the difference. By aligning the $10 bundle with the cost of a standard skin, Bungie has eliminated a predatory hurdle that had drawn sharp criticism since the game’s March 5 launch.

While Bungie has not explicitly stated that skin pricing prompted this change, the math suggests a deliberate effort to curb negative sentiment. The developer has yet to provide a firm date for the update, though they noted that the game’s first major patch is scheduled to arrive within the coming week. This update is expected to address further feedback gathered during the pre-release “Server Slam” event, including quality-of-life improvements for UI, increased objective visibility, and adjustments to starting loadouts.

These efforts to smooth out the Marathon experience come at a critical time. Despite maintaining a 90 percent satisfaction rating on Steam, the game faces stiff competition in the crowded extraction shooter market. With titles like ARC Raiders currently dominating, Bungie is under immense pressure to refine Marathon quickly. Whether this minor currency adjustment will be enough to quell concerns and retain a dedicated player base remains to be seen, but it serves as a tangible signal that the developers are finally listening to their audience.
