Microsoft Gaming’s new CEO Asha Sharma has officially unveiled the next Xbox console which is codenamed ‘Project Helix’, and is designed to play both Xbox and PC titles. She shared the news on her social media account, stating: “Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console.”
“Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!”
A short official video was also released by Xbox showcasing the official logo of Project Helix along with what seems like the boot-up noise of the console.
However, not much is currently known about the next gen Xbox except it will be made in partnership with AMD and former Xbox President Sarah Bond also described the console as a “high-end” machine that will deliver a “curated experience.”
Current Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also stated previously that the next Xbox will be much closer to the PC in nature:
“We built a console because we wanted to build a better PC, which could then perform for gaming,” said Nadella. “So I kind of want to revisit some of that conventional wisdom. But at the end of the day, console has an experience that is unparalleled.”
The new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has also confirmed previously that the ecosystem which gamers know and love for around two decades will not be compromised by AI slop which was a concern after the recent change in leadership:
“I think that with any new technology, it brings possibilities as a tool, but even more important, especially now – we need to draw lines on what we won’t do,” said Sharma. “That’s what I attempted to do when I shared my opening letter. I will not flood our ecosystem with slop.”
“We won’t have careless output, we won’t have derivative work. I deeply believe in the words that I shared previously there.”
