Proving once more that the Call of Duty franchise is indeed too big to fail (at least commercially) and it’s impossible to keep a Call of Duty title down, Black Ops 7 has earned the crown of the highest selling title in the month of January. This is according to the latest US sales data that was released this friday which confirmed that Activision’s juggernaut Call of Duty has managed to surpass all other videogames in terms of sales numbers this past month which is a mighty impressive feat considering the game came out on the Xbox Game Pass as well.

However, it’s archrival and the title that actually managed to beat Call of Duty in sales numbers last year, EA’s flagship shooter Battlefield 6 is in the top five as well, proving that even though the current player numbers have dwindled a lot, it’s still pretty big in more ways than one.

Check out the entire list of the best selling videogames in the month of January:

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 — Microsoft
  2. NBA 2K26 — Take-Two Interactive
  3. Madden NFL 26 — Electronic Arts
  4. Minecraft — Microsoft
  5. Battlefield 6 — Electronic Arts
  6. EA Sports FC 26 — Electronic Arts
  7. Grand Theft Auto V — Take-Two Interactive
  8. Red Dead Redemption II — Take-Two Interactive
  9. Final Fantasy VII: Remake — Square Enix Inc
  10. Forza Horizon 5 — Microsoft
  11. Code Vein II — Bandai Namco Entertainment
  12. Ghost of Yotei — Sony
  13. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II — Plaion
  14. EA Sports College Football 26 — Electronic Arts
  15. Helldivers II — Sony
  16. Pokémon Legends: Z-A — Nintendo
  17. Split Fiction — Electronic Arts
  18. Elden Ring — Bandai Namco Entertainment
  19. Flight Simulator 2024 — Microsoft
  20. Fallout 4 — Microsoft

The Call of Duty franchise has been accused by many players and critics for getting repetitive and stale for a long time and it seems this year’s Battlefield 6 and all the phenomenal success EA’s flagship shooter has had so far may actually force Activision and the devs to make changes to what has become a fairly familiar mold of gameplay, on a more fundamental level.
