Cerebral is inspired in games like P.T and Exit 8, this new PC horror indie looks quite frightening and the most interesting thing is that it apparently does not rely on cheap jumpscares, it truly respects what psychological horror means. A trailer dropped showcasing the uncanny vibes of it all, and it truly feels like it captures that horror and tension just right. If you are seeking for something that can leave you thinking for a while, I feel like this is the kind of game for you. Try to escape from what apparently is your dorm, before an evil entity corrupts your mind making you forget who you are.
Cerebral is out
Cerebral is clearly all about identity, and your task in the game is to remain sane enough through the ordeal, each time you fail your memories will degrade and if you fail enough the entity would have won. That means that you need to be sure the puzzles you are solving are being solved in the correct way if you wanna reach the true ending and learn from Sophie’s identity. Games that use psychological horror correctly are rare to find, mostly due to the mass produced aspect of them and thanks to people misunderstanding this genre.
Even the Silent Hill series is currently facing issues with quality, Silent Hill 2 Remake ignores everything that made the original be a good game by replacing it with cheap jumpscares. As always, indies understand what they are doing because they are game fans, not people who wants to optimize the fun away from games. Games also have meaning behind them, which is a thing that feels like a foreign concept to explore, hence why many new releases feel so soulless. Cerebral however, is one that might stick with you till the day you part from this world.
