The Witcher 4 had it’s cinematic reveal trailer premiered at last year’s The Game Awards show, but if you thought there will be more of CD Projekt Red’s upcoming open world action RPG in the upcoming ceremony, you’ll be sorely disappointed cause according to the devs themeselves, Witcher 4 is going to skip this year’s The Game Awards entirely.
During the acknowledgement of The Witcher 4’s nomination in the Most Anticipated Game category at this year’s The Game Awards show, CD Projekt joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski wrote in their social media account that The Witcher 4 won’t be making an appearance in the show, at all.
“I’m very happy to see The Witcher 4 nominated in the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards,” Nowakowski wrote. “Thanks to everyone who has already voted — your support means a lot to us. We won’t be bringing any new content to TGA this year, but we’re, as always, excited to watch the show and celebrate this amazing industry’s great night alongside all of you.”
This makes sense in a lot of ways as The Witcher 4 is going to be a monumental undertaking for CD Projekt, it’s understandable that they need to take their sweet time before actually giving something to the fans cause the anticipation is also sky-high.
Also, 2026 is going to be the year of GTA 6 where we’ll likely see tons of new materials including another trailer, gameplay showcase and more getting released for Rockstar’s open world behemoth one after another and so even if CD Projekt would’ve showed anything in the upcoming The Game Awards, it would’ve been easily eclipsed by GTA 6’s new range of contents within the year and wouldn’t have had the kind of impact a game like The Witcher 4 needs to build up the necessary momentum.
In other news related to The Witcher 4, developer CD Projekt Red has recently acquired 50 new developers and a sizable part of that workforce will likely be allotted to Witcher 4, which also suggests the enormous scale of the project.
