Demonschool is out, and it got an amazing animated trailer for that. The game is inspired by many things, primarily Italian Horror Cinema and anime aesthetics, not to mention the obvious influence of Persona. While there’s regrettably not a single mention of first person dungeon crawling in it Demonschool gives us something new with tactical turn based battles with a ton of things to optimize and play around. For people who like building their party up and character interactions, I feel like Demonschool will satiate the needs of fans who are looking for a good Persona game.
Demonschool is what Persona was
Barring the lack of dungeon crawling, Demonschool aims to be Persona but good. The original games were so much better, especially when you take Persona 2 into consideration. Persona 3 was rather good but it lacked the appeal it needed, along with being quite controversial in some aspects, Demonschool seems to aim to set the record straight by being an indie game with a hint of queerness to it. Hopefully, the developers behind it can find some success in the ever competitive game development scene, it is honestly very hard to find footing this days if nobody notices you.
There’s a ton of elements to analyze from the trailer, and it is clear that there’s a ton of things to do in this game. From bug racing, to playing arcade games, it feels as if they developers decided to make it the everything game when it comes to options, similar to Yakuza. Still the main gameplay is a tactical RPG with unique battle mechanics, which hopefully people will be able to adapt to without any issues. The publisher behind this game is known for games like World of Horror, a Junji Ito-esque adventure game, it seems like they have a knack for publishing stuff that goes heavy on story.
