Megabonk developer who got famous in a very short span of time has decided to drop from The Game Awards, this is due to the fact that he believes he isn’t qualifying for the position of debut indie. There’s other games that deserve that position according to him, and it seems that vedinad has some experience with game developing that make him not a suitable choice to qualify. The developer states that he indeed worked under different names as a game developer so Megabonk isn’t exactly the first game we are seeing from them, along with the fact that we will get more updates too.
Megabonk is crazy
Megabonk is quite possibly the most successful indie title out there when it comes to generating big buzz in the media. There’s other games out there that should fit the qualification of debut title, and unfortunately Megabonk doesn’t cut it. Out of all the Vampire Survivors clones, Megabonk is the one that has some shred of passion put into it instead of being merely some trend chasing title. The developer didn’t expect he would become so successful, yet, he became one of the best for a long period of time and still is.
He does say however, that there’s plenty of indie titles out there that deserve more recognition, such as Despelote, an actual debut title that shows us a story about childhood and football. Games are art, and The Game Awards should focus on nominating things that deserve it, and while Megabonk doesn’t cut it, games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 do when you consider its a huge scale project despite being made by some industry veterans. I personally believe there’s tons of undiscovered indies that need attention, and despite them being buried under tons of games they deserve recognition. Perhaps the biggest industry problem is that there’s so many games.
