Supergiant Games’ recently released title, Hades II, has quickly become a commercial success. It’s among the year’s most important launches. After moving from Early Access, the 1.0 version reached an all-time high of 112,947 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB. This impressive debut more than doubles the record set by its acclaimed predecessor, Hades, which peaked at 54,240 players. This clearly shows the excitement and wide interest in the sequel.
The game’s reception from critics and players reflects its strong commercial performance. Hades II has received high praise, earning an average score of 93 on the aggregate site OpenCritic. This score highlights the game’s improved mechanics and broad mythological world, making it a favorite among critics. Also, community feedback on Steam is overwhelmingly positive, showing strong agreement among players about the quality and lasting appeal of the roguelike style established by Supergiant Games.
Despite the widespread acclaim, the game has faced some division over how it presents its true ending, introduced in the 1.0 release. Some fans have criticized the conclusion’s concept and pacing. However, this disagreement has not hurt the game’s overall positive image or affected its strong sales. The success indicates that the core gameplay and story continue to resonate with a large player base.
Looking ahead, Hades II plans to expand its availability beyond PC and Nintendo Switch. Ports for Xbox and PlayStation are expected to follow a similar timeline as the original Hades, which became available on consoles about a year after launch. However, studio director Amir Rao has confirmed that Supergiant Games is focused on one project at a time. There are currently no plans for an immediate sequel, Hades III, as the team concentrates on supporting and refining the current successful game.
