Rise of the Tomb Raider is now out on GOG, after years of being locked behind predatory DRM. The Tomb Raider series is fantastic, often filled with various challenges to accomplish as the aforementioned Tomb Raider herself, Lara Croft, always there to tackle some new journey and thwart a conspiracy. Rise of the Tomb Raider is also becoming 10 years old next year, that means an anniversary sale might be nearby, and while it is currently at 90% on Steam, you should ignore that sale if you care about owning your games, do it through GOG, GOG respects your right to ownership and buying content you want.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is on GOG
More Tomb Raider games are in too, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is another one that got in at the same time, but I prefer Rise of the Tomb Raider myself. Being familiar with the older PS1 titles, this series is quite a joy to go back to from time to time, especially when they often remain the same as they always were back then. Often times, the only thing that happens with these games is that they get some graphical lifting to make them look appealing to the modern crowd but in reality, I believe they could still work with minimalist graphics.
Realism isn’t the end all be all of the medium, as it threatens to squander the variety that art is recognized for. Video games need variety, but that does not mean that the roots of something should be pulled out and purged like many companies believe. Doing new franchises is risky, but if they really care about video games they should really focus on making new ones like the Tomb Raider series, as the industry has grown stagnant with so many remakes and remasters that we don’t really need. Rise of the Tomb Raider is also on a 90% discount on GOG, so just pick that version over the Steam one.
