Konami has shared an important update about the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, now named Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The single-player campaign will be the main focus when the game releases on August 28, 2025. However, the new online multiplayer feature will not be available at launch. This mode, called “Fox Hunt,” is set to be released in the fall of 2025, several months after the main game.
This shift represents a significant change from the original game. The 2004 launch of Metal Gear Solid 3 was solely a single-player experience. Players didn’t get to experience online multiplayer until the enhanced re-release, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. This decision to prioritize the single-player campaign and delay the multiplayer may help ensure that the main story is polished and ready, without the added complexity of launching online at the same time.
The “Fox Hunt” mode is described as a hide-and-seek style game focused on camouflage and survival. This design closely matches the main elements of the Snake Eater campaign, where stealth and strategy are crucial. By incorporating these themes into multiplayer, Konami seems to aim for a mode that feels true to the series’ origins. The delay might also give the development team more time to improve the online infrastructure and balance, leading to a better experience for players once it is finally ready.
Even though there are valid reasons for this staggered release, it does come with some risk. By the time “Fox Hunt” launches in the fall, many players who bought the game at launch will have finished the campaign and may have moved on to other games. Konami will need to keep players interested and engaged in the months leading up to the multiplayer release, ensuring a solid player base is available to enjoy the new mode when it arrives.
