No Man's Sky

No Man’s Sky continues to open whole new frontiers of space, literally, as developer Hello Games has just released a 10th anniversary patch titled Cosmos which is set to be one of the “biggest and craziest” updates to have ever come out for the space-faring title. Hello Games chief Sean Murray provided a brief rundown on what you can expect from the newest update for No Man’s Sky, stating the following:

“No Man’s Sky is often referred to as ‘a Space Game,’ it’s a huge part of our game, but we’ve never really updated space since release,” Murray said. “In most sci-fi games, space is just an empty void. With Cosmos we wondered – can we make space feel truly alive? And could we make space feel more like home? What if you could own a Space Station? If you could build star bases, and create alliances with other players.”

The new additions into the game include a Star map, huge space hulks, new space outposts, bio-wrecks, asteroid belts, free-floating orbital bases, space station ownership (which is one of the most requested features since the game had came out), alliances, and the ability to now reach the star at the center of players’ own star system.

Developer Hello Games has also started an expedition alongside the Cosmos update, titled Our Journey Continues! which includes milestones that represent one of the 40 game-changing updates since No Man’s Sky initially launched in 2016.

“It is like a museum of each update, unlocking the features of each update as we added them, along with a spacelog of interesting facts and developers commentary for each update,” Murray explained. “It’s been a real joy to revisit some of those moments for us.”

No Man’s Sky has as estimated 18 quintillion number of planets which means the scale of the game is literally astronomical. And according to the devs themselves, it would actually take 585 billion years to visit and explore all of them.
