A new SpongeBob SquarePants game, currently called SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide, is reportedly changing platforms. Leaks suggest it will launch mainly on the unreleased Nintendo Switch 2. This news surprises many in the gaming community. The original Nintendo Switch is widely available and has a large user base, which this new title will skip.
The game first appeared through age ratings from South Korean and German boards in June, identifying THQ Nordic as the publisher. It will also be developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. These early details matched prior hints in 2024 about a new SpongeBob title for the next year. Recent reports from Dealabs have provided more information, pointing to a release date of November 18, 2025.
Importantly, these findings indicate that SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 instead of the original. This choice means the game will not be accessible to many players still using the original Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. While the Switch 2 has already sold millions since its rumored launch on June 5, ongoing stock issues are expected to continue into 2026, possibly limiting access to this new SpongeBob adventure.
The leaked pricing shows the game will cost USD 39.99 across all platforms, with a physical release planned for PlayStation 5 and Switch 2. An official announcement from THQ Nordic is expected within the next two weeks, likely during a Nintendo Direct event or the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase on August 1. Using the more powerful hardware of the Switch 2 could improve the game’s performance. However, its exclusive release on current-generation consoles may affect initial sales by leaving out players who haven’t upgraded yet. Fortunately, several months remain before the rumored launch, offering a chance for better availability of the Switch 2.
