Deathward is an indie game that went under the radar for many, it was out for a while now, but I believe it deserves to be talked about more. This new PC game has some interesting features that should be a part of more games, sadly, the wider industry does not want to play around and experiment. This is why indie games are so very important right now, because corporate interests stifle any kind of desire for making anything risky. The game barely has any reviews at all, and it’s made by a passionate team of developers who love making stuff.
Deathward might be a hidden gem
It is rare to say that there’s hidden gems nowadays, considering the indie catalogue is wide and filled with a ton of cool things. However, I can say with certainty that Deathward might be one of those games that you shouldn’t underestimate, this is a true indie game that has no publishers behind. Games like this are the ones that need the most help to stand out, because they tend to be swallowed by the sea of game releases that happens on the daily. It would be very sad if people forgot about this game, it barely has 2 reviews, both of them being positive.
Deathward is often compared to The Legend of Zelda, but more combat focused, there is puzzles here and there, but they don’t seem to be the main attraction at all. This is a dungeon crawling game where you control skeletons, and death itself is an important mechanic to the game that you need to exploit if you wanna get better at it. Power ups are also part of the game loop and they bring some unique mechanics into the mix, genuinely this is a game that should be played more.
