The big Battlefield 6 reveal has dropped and it’s a big one, the game will be exclusive to current gen consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S) and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), as seen in Microsoft’s official website. This means the PS4 and Xbox One are not included in the release plans. For a chunk of the console gaming community this will be a disappointment as many are still on the older hardware. But the reasoning behind this move seems to be to not have the game limited by the old systems.
By focusing on the current gen only, they can push the boundaries of what Battlefield 6 can do, potentially more graphics, bigger battles and more destruction – areas where previous games felt held back. The initial reveal trailer which dropped on July 24 showed off the single player campaign, with a full multiplayer reveal on July 31. Rumors are a 3 day event leading up to the multiplayer reveal with developer interviews and exclusive hands on time for content creators. This staggered approach to info dump is to build hype and give us a better understanding of the game.
Last gen console owners will be disappointed but the decision to focus on current gen and PC hasn’t killed the hype for Battlefield 6. The reveal trailer got more likes in a shorter time than the initial trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 which still supports last gen consoles. This is a good start for Battlefield 6 and positions it as a big player in the crowded space of big games later this year. Focusing on next gen is a calculated risk, it means they are committed to innovation and an uncompromised experience for those with the latest hardware.
