The Alters is being destroyed by fans for using “AI” in all generated assets, including the translation for various languages. 11 Bit Studious is a criminal, and if I could refund This War of Mine, I would do so in an instant, they don’t deserve to earn any cent out of stolen work. If people can attack Bungie for stealing art assets in plain sight, people can attack 11 Bit Studios for committing theft too. Games are supposed to be art, using “AI” to do them is going against the whole notion of the medium, but its honestly unsurprising considered the lack of media literacy that many people have or even literacy at all.
The Alters is slop
Even using “AI” in a minimal way ruins the meaning of an entire production, its easier to just support someone with a job position rather than try to generate thousands of slop images and picking the one that looks convincing enough to the masses. When games or any art medium start getting gentrified like with what happened in the 2010s, quality is at a big risk since people who don’t understand the medium become the main “consumer”. The Alters is pretty much just slop that nobody cares about and will be forgotten like the rest, back into the impermanence that it came from.
The Portuguese translation of The Alters is entirely done by “AI”, and many players are pointing that fact out, citing that they can’t play the game. The industry is in a tough spot, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel, “AI” is falling out of relevancy and the whole trend seems to be dying off as we speak. There’s many signs of an impending bubble that is going to pop, running the global economy in a big scale. When things go wrong in the years to come, many will not blame people but will blame the next thing, that will be “AI” itself. So better get ready for the most interesting times ever.
