Subnautica Dives onto Mobile Devices

In a major shot in the arm for the aqua survival and exploration community, Unknown Worlds officially announced that the original Subnautica, which has received widespread critical acclaim, is coming to iOS and Android phones on the 8th of July 2025. This announcement takes the underwater blockbuster to another platform, further broadening its reach from its current release on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.

For those who are not gamers, Subnautica drops players down into the bottom of an extraterrestrial sea after a shipwreck on an unfamiliar planet. The game pulls wonderfully out the wonder of the experience with touches of pure terror as players work to gather resources, build equipment, and unlock the mysteries of this underwater world in an attempt to survive in its dangers. It is a testament to the game’s design that it still surprises players with its engaging mix of exploration, resource management, and strong narrative.

The mobile version is an effort by Unknown Worlds and Playdigious, which is a studio that specializes in porting games of high quality to mobile devices. The alliance guarantees the unadulterated and uncompromised Subnautica experience with natural touch controls engineered with mobile touch screens in mind, in addition to full support for all controllers for users who prefer playing in a more classic gaming setup. Additionally, the game will be competitively priced at $9.99 on mobile, with a 10% pre-order discount, presenting an affordable entry point for new players.

Aside from core gameplay, the mobile release will also incorporate new convenience features of modern mobile gaming, such as MFi controller support, Apple Game Center achievements, and full cloud saving functionality enabling facile carryover of progress between Apple and Android platforms. Optimization has been focused on the most recent Apple hardware, the game itself being optimized for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max for a premium visual and performance experience.

Though no announcement has been made yet on an official mobile port of any Subnautica: Below Zero game, the franchise continues to roll forward while Subnautica 2 is on the horizon, introducing a new stage in its narrative with highly anticipated multiplayer co-op gameplay support into the mix, with early access launching later this year. The portable launch of the original Subnautica is another thrilling addition to this popular series, drawing in more players than ever before to its hostile and stunning alien oceans.
