Genshin Impact Leak Indicates Version 5.8 Can Shatter New Character Release Pattern

A huge leak from Reddit circulating within the Genshin Impact community suggests that Version 5.8 of the hit live-service game will not include any new characters. This would be a drastic deviation from the game’s pattern of introducing roughly 17 characters per patch cycle, which has been the standard to a large degree since Version 2.0. This shift could have certain implications on the interest of the players and resource distribution.

The current rate for Natlan, the newest large territory of the game, indicates 14 characters already introduced out into the game’s large roster. With the projected additions of Skirk and Dahlia as part of Version 5.7, the number is going to reach up to 16. This trend leaves but one possible opening for a new character in the existing release cycle, indicating possible slowing on the introduction of new faces.

There is likely no new character in 5.8

Though the lack of new characters in Version 5.8 can be a concern to some players anxiously awaiting new members, it may be a strategic benefit to the player base as a whole. With the previous updates, Versions 5.6 and 5.7, being notably special features for having relatively modest Primogem releases—the game currency required in order to purchase new characters—a character-free update in 5.8 would give players a sorely needed chance to save up such funds. This longer time to save Primogems might prove to be a good thing, leaving them better off for future character buys, particularly the hotly awaited ones.

Some fears of content pace for Natlan have also been voiced among players. Players have complained that this current content drop is less scope-like and dynamic in terms of feel compared to the regular map drops and story hooks one is used to from Fontaine’s narrative. This perspective seems to expect more input than characters. Let’s keep in mind that all information garnered through leaks is speculative and can change at the developers’, HoYoverse, whim.

The history of game development, and Genshin Impact in particular, has had its share of cases in which early leaked information had not been accurate when it comes to the final product available to consumers. Players should then consider it with some skepticism, taking into consideration the fact that game development is not static and official releases are the best source. Release for Skirk and Dahlia will be on June 18, 2025, and Version 5.8 is provisionally set for July 30, 2025.
