Destiny 2 Players Demand the Return of Weapon Crafting

Destiny 2 Players Demand the Return of Weapon Crafting

The Destiny 2 community is calling for the return of weapon crafting, frustrated with the system’s current state following the release of Episode: Revenant. With Episode: Heresy now live and Act 2 launching on March 11, many players believe that the removal of crafting for new weapons has exposed flaws in the game’s RNG loot system and weapon storage.

Why Players Want Weapon Crafting Back

The weapon crafting system was introduced to solve some of Destiny 2’s biggest loot-related problems, including:

  • Reducing RNG frustration: Players could craft their preferred weapons instead of relying on random drops.
  • Improving storage management: Crafted weapons eliminated the need for excessive vault space.

However, changes introduced in Episode: Revenant now prevent new weapons from being crafted until their respective activities are retired, making it impossible to craft weapons mid-Episode. This has led to frustration and backlash from players who feel that weapon crafting was a vital system that should not have been deprioritized.

It's really frustrating that Crafting WAS the solution to the weapon hunt / storage issue, but Bungie abandoned it due to engagement worries.

The Community’s Response

Many players believe that Bungie’s decision to limit weapon crafting was made to increase player engagement—forcing them to grind for drops rather than craft the weapons they want. While some understand Bungie’s reasoning, others argue that a mix of RNG loot and weapon crafting would be the best approach, similar to how the system worked the Destiny 2 Witch Queen expansion.

Reddit user Pervavore summed up many players’ frustration, stating that the lack of weapon crafting has brought back RNG problems and vault clutter issues that the system was initially designed to fix.

What’s Next?

The upcoming Destiny 2 Frontiers expansion is expected to introduce major changes to legendary weapons, including a new weapon tier system. Some legendary weapons will reach a tier equivalent to Adept weapons, but it’s unclear if weapon crafting will return in a meaningful way.

With the player base continuing to demand mid-Episode crafting options, Bungie may need to reconsider its approach to keep the community engaged without alienating long-time players.
