Battlefield Labs Closed Beta Playtest to Kick Off on March 7

EA announced that the initial playtest of Battlefield Labs, a new closed beta initiative, will kick off on March 7. The program will enable invited players to offer comments on pre-alpha in-development content for the upcoming Battlefield installment in the series.

EA first introduced Battlefield Labs in September 2024 as a fan-driven initiative to get gamers involved with creating the next Battlefield game. The program later opened registration in February 2025, and there were many people who wanted to try to get their hands on playtest roles. The future playtests will only be available for North American and European PC players, but only a select group of thousand will be chosen from the very lengthy line of applicants.

The first playtest session will be around two hours long and will be for playtesting some ideas and mechanics. Insider Gaming revealed that players recently received notification about the release on March 7 in an email. The test will take place in a closed environment, and there will be strict NDAs to discourage recording, streaming, or posting anything during the session.

While the initial testing will be in small numbers, EA has scheduled Battlefield Labs to open to tens of thousands of players in new regions in upcoming sessions. The mass collaboration is one of the efforts of EA to more closely align the next Battlefield game with community expectations after the backlash for Battlefield 2042. The 2021 title was roundly criticized for bugs, a lack of content, and modifications to fundamental gameplay mechanics.

Battlefield Labs is a change of pace from EA in regards to player feedback, with the company looking to steer clear of the same pitfalls that befell its last game. The future Battlefield game is set to arrive in fiscal year 2026, EA’s most recent earnings report stated.

As the initial playtest, soon to go live, the details of the next Battlefield game could emerge in the weeks ahead as more feedback is received from EA’s community.
