WWE 2K23’s servers have gone dark in January 6, along with all of it’s add-ons/ DLC’s being de-listed and pulled away from storefronts as well as all it’s digital currency removed. This currently leaves WWE 2K24 as the only modern wrestling game with online functionalities. So if you have WWE 2K23, you won’t be able to access any online content of the game such as participating in online matches or the Community Creations anymore, however you’ll be able to play the game in it’s offline mode without any limitations.
“WWE 2K23 is getting its final takedown. As of January 6, 2025, the servers will be discontinued,” Publisher 2K stated when the server closure was first announced. “This includes all online functions, such as online matches and Community Creations. You will no longer be able to access any online game mode after this point, however, if you already own the game you will be able to continue to play offline modes.”
However, the fact that WWE 2K23 got de-listed after less than 2 years of it’s release seems odd and a bit unfair for the players of the game, this also raises concerns over the longevity of these games if their online functionalities get taken down at a relatively shorter amount of time. And as the online contents provide a significant portion of the game’s overall playability, taking it all away can disrupt the player base significantly. At this point they can either buy WWE 2K24, the newer installment of the franchise or wait for the release of WWE 2K25, which is set to launch around March this year. Also if these games continue to have this much lower lifespan, then it’s certainly worth debating whether it’s actually justified to pay full price for them in the first place.
WWE 2K24, the successor of 2K23 was released in March 2024 and received mostly favorable reviews upon release. The game was praised for making tons of incremental improvements over it’s predecessor, and is currently one of the highest rated wrestling games of the modern era.
