Ubisoft Titles on Steam Will No Longer Require Ubisoft Connect to Launch

Via a recent new update, both Ubisoft and Steam have announced that you’ll no longer need an Ubisoft client to launch the publisher’s games on Steam, making the experience a lot more seamless than before. The announcement states the following:

“Starting with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, we are testing a new Ubisoft Connect Services Steam tool that keeps Ubisoft game features such as cross-progression, cross-play,m player safety, challenges and rewards, among others, without requiring the Ubisoft Connect PC launcher to be installed or launched.”

“This first version is an initial step toward a smoother and more streamlined launch experience on Steam. We will continue to iterate and improve Ubisoft Connect Services over time, with the goal of delivering the features and services players use and expect while making the Steam experience as seamless as possible.”

“Ubisoft Connect Services will progressively evolve and roll out to more Ubisoft games on Steam in the future”.

The Ubisoft Connect app was a bit of a barrier between players wanting to launch their games swiftly, also, there have been issues with some of the publisher’s older titles too which had resulted in several Ubisoft games becoming no longer accessible in the usual way. And although it’s currently unknown which games will be next in line for ditching the client, some players are advocating for the Assassin’s Creed titles to now be available without Ubisoft Connect.

There are also requests for Steam to do the same for other third party clients too, such as the EA Play App (which has similar issues as Ubisoft Connect) and Rockstar Games Social Club. However, Steam hasn’t said anything on their end regarding whether other clients (with similar annoyances) are set to receive the same treatment or not.

Games launching on Steam without other clients getting in the way can certainly speed up your experience and make it hassle free, in many ways.
