Tomorrow or August 26, voting will begin for the upcoming Gamescom Awards 2026 and although it’s nominations slate features numerous AAA greats for you to vote for, the one that’s actually with the most number of nominations is none other than Metro 2039, a game that won’t be coming out for at least six more months. Currently, Metro 2039 has garnered a total of five nominations at the Awards ceremony, outgunning a lot of other AAAs in these categories:
- Best PC Game
- Best PlayStation Game
- Best XBOX Game
- Most Epic Game
- Best Visuals
And all of these are actually based on what we’ve seen from the upcoming game so far, which isn’t a whole lot, although it’s safe to say that we’ll be seeing a lot more of Metro 2039 at this year’s Gamescom that will take place on both 26 and 27th of August.
According to Xbox Wire, the titles that will take the center stage in Gamescom 2026 are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Gears of War: E-Day, Metro 2039, Fable and more. You can watch Livestreams of the event on both Youtube and Twitch at 4 PM CEST on Wednesday, August 26, and Thursday, August 27 with lots of new videogame trailers, developer interviews, gameplay videos and more.
The reveal trailer of Metro 2039 focused on the tense and psychological undertones of it’s world and a bleak narrative backdrop but according to series creator Dmitry Glukhovsky, the upcoming game is even more than that and is kind of transcendental experience that somehow surpasses the boundaries of it’s medium in more ways than one.
There’s also a leaked story synapses of the upcoming title (courtesy of IGDB and Insider Gaming) which includes the following:
“The year is 2039. For a quarter century, the last survivors of nuclear war have been locked in bitter conflict deep in the Metro tunnels beneath the poisoned city of Moscow. Now, finally, they have been united by a single leader, a fanatical Spartan known as Hunter.
Experience the most shocking METRO adventure yet in a powerful single-player story that weaves exploration, survival, combat, and stealth across a hauntingly beautiful but deadly world with unparalleled immersion.”
Metro 2039 is currently slated to release in February 2027 for all major platforms.
