Devil May Cry

Capcom’s Devil May Cry is one of the most iconic pure action or character action series ever made that has also revolutionized the entire hack-n-slash genre more than once, first with Devil May Cry 1 and then with Devil May Cry 3 which is still cited as one of the greatest action titles of all time. The last entry in the series, titled Devil May Cry 5, came out back in 2019 and is where the series reached it’s peak, in terms of it’s combat system which makes it one of those timeless videogame experiences that never gets old and yields unlimited replay value.

However, there have been multiple rumors indicating that the first Devil May Cry, which came out more than two decades ago, could be getting a remake and recently, Hideki Kamiya, who was the director of the title, has posted a tweet hinting that he could make a return to the legendary action franchise.

On August 9, a player asked Kamiya a lore-specific question regarding the first Devil May Cry game: “I’m playing through DMC1 right now and always wondered: What is the lore behind the DT dragon in the fight against Mundus? Is it the same as Vergil creating swords with his aura, or is it a familiar? Something else? Can you elaborate on this, please?”

And as a surprising response, Kamiya gave this mysterious answer: “It will become clear when I make the DMC series again…”, and while he didn’t follow up on the post but the fact that he wrote ‘when’ instead of ‘if’, suggests there’s indeed a possibility of him directing the rumored remake of the first game.

His reply has also created a shockwave throughout the community as lots of players and DMC fans are currently excited for the seeming possibility of the remake, however, till there’s an official announcement from Capcom, you may want to take it with a grain of salt.

In other news of the series, Devil May Cry 5 Devil Hunter Edition has been announced for the Nintendo Switch 2 recently with additional contents such as the Vergil DLC, battle tracks, alternate costume colors and more. The Switch 2 version of Devil May Cry 5 is also set to run at a locked 60 FPS on both TV and handheld modes, offering a highly enjoyable and consistent gameplay experience whether you are docked or playing on the go.
