Insomniac Games has released a new CGI trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine which showcases some of the narrative background and character-driven journey for the titular character in the game, hinting that the upcoming third person action title may put a unique spin on the iconic character and perhaps something that we haven’t seen across any medium so far. The trailer shifts into different locations with Wolverine battling it out with various groups of foes including military units, the cyborg-esque soldiers from the previously released gameplay video and lastly, ninjas. Check out the new trailer below:
The biggest highlights of the new trailer is definitely Sabretooth and Lady Deathstrike, with the former likely to team up with Wolverine during several missions and the latter possibly a boss you fight at some point in the game. We also see Sabretooth rescuing Wolverine from the cyborg soldiers which hints at an interesting dynamic between the two characters, pretty much like it is in the comics.
However, Lady Deathstrike from the trailer looks to be fully matched with Logan which would make for an interesting boss battle and we also see Wolverine tapping into his feral rage that looks like a short-term boost for his many abilities and stats.
But perhaps the most interesting aspect of the new trailer is how it showcases a kind of duality in Wolverine’s character as he tries to hold on to his more humanly nature but enters into full beastly fury near the end, slashing his enemies like there’s no tomorrow. These moments of character-centric nuances will definitely enrich the narrative of Wolverine in more ways than one, and indicates that Insomniac has really nailed every aspect of the iconic character.
Marvel’s Wolverine comes out in two different editions–the Standard version of the game will cost you $69.99 while the Digital Deluxe version sports a price tag of $79.99. There’s no mention of a collector’s edition that’s geared towards enthusiasts so if you were hoping for physical collectibles like statues and maybe action figures, looks like there won’t be any of that.
The way Insomniac took Spider-Man and pretty much reinvented him up to the towering standards of current-gen AAA gaming, from both technical and mechanical standpoints, it sure looks like they have done the same with Wolverine as well, which is slashing it’s way into the Playstation 5 on September 15 this year.
