EA Games is being sold to Saudi Arabian interest, and with this deal comes a massive wave of unprecedented layoffs that aren’t even quantifiable. Somehow the worst gaming company can just come in and say that they don’t wanna show us the layoff numbers, which is insane and nobody should defend it. Alas, here we are, in the worst period to be pursuing a career in game development when it comes to aiming for the top, but a decent time to become an independent creator yourself. They don’t provide quality, I would argue they never really cared about the teams they abused when publishing their games.
EA games might die
And honestly I won’t be mourning for their loss, even since the early days of gaming, back when good games came out it wasn’t even due to them. This company just helped publish games and sometimes even bought IPs from their creators to enshittify them. Back in the Game Boy era the people who made the Harry Potter games had to hide their discontent about EA Games in the game’s code, because they got forced to do things in inefficient ways under abuse. This can be verified by doing a quick trip to the Cutting Room Floor or checking some trivia online.
It is crazy that we have to live on a time where one of the biggest heels in gaming history might just cease to exist in some months. Even if its not disappearing in such a short span of time, their fate is sealed, and I personally won’t miss them because they have a history of ruining things. I can’t fathom to care for a company that does everything wrong, on top of abusing the very life blood that keeps them going, along with the customers that keep buying EA Games stuff.
