Capcom Credits Shift to Team-Based Development for Recent Global Success

Capcom President and COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto has revealed that the company’s recent string of commercial and critical successes stems directly from a fundamental restructuring of its internal development culture. Speaking in a recent interview with Famitsu, Tsujimoto explained that the Osaka-based publisher has intentionally abandoned its traditional, individual-led production mindset in favor of a collaborative, team-driven approach to game creation.

The strategic pivot marks a major departure from the traditional “auteur” model often seen across the Japanese gaming industry, where a single creative director heavily dictates the trajectory of a franchise. Tsujimoto noted that relying entirely on the vision of one person creates long-term sustainability risks for major intellectual properties, particularly if that creator leaves the studio or steps away from a project. By distributing creative leadership across broader development teams, Capcom aims to ensure that its flagship series can survive and evolve independently of any single individual.

This corporate evolution arrives at a milestone moment as Capcom celebrates its 43rd anniversary, backed by exceptional market momentum. During the first half of 2026, the publisher maintained a highly consistent release schedule, launching several major titles including Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, and the highly anticipated Pragmata across all current-generation platforms. The operational shift has already yielded massive financial dividends, satisfying both players and corporate stakeholders.

The commercial data firmly supports this collaborative strategy. Capcom’s recent multiplatform lineup has broken retail records, highlighted by Resident Evil Requiem surpassing seven million copies sold worldwide within just two months of its initial release. By establishing a structured, team-focused pipeline, the publisher has successfully minimized the development bottlenecks and extended delays that frequently plague modern high-budget game production, securing a stable and lucrative future for its most prominent gaming franchises.
