Stop Killing Games is getting more powerful as time goes on, and it seems that they are taking over the United States beginning with California. The voting process was a huge success with 43-16 votes in favor that allow the law to become a thing, the Protect Our Games Act is now in full motion and companies all over the world need to stick to the regulatory framework. Live service games will have to come with a disclaimer that allows us to know when the official servers will end, and when they do, the company will be forced to provide a solution to keep the game playable.
Stop Killing Games wins
This is a victory for all of us who love gaming, and the fact that anyone attempted to oppose this was kinda wild in a way, only two republicans voted in favor of making it law, joining 41 democrats who also said they wanted it to be a reality. We can keep fighting for more, we need more regulation in the gaming space, because companies have taken advantage of us for years by removing games that have been core memories for all of us, Stop Killing Games prevents more of these memories from being lost.
Not to mention that all of these games that have ceased to exist pretty much are lost media, and Stop Killing Games mainly aims to preserve games first and foremost. The fact that we can still play what we want and how we want without anyone having control of the things we do. Still, this is just a battle, we need to keep pushing harder to change the medium into what once was, and that means we need to keep choosing more battles to partake into. We need a law that brings back physical media, as things like Game Key Cards and dummy discs seem to be very common nowadays.
