Remedy is one of the most eccentric developers in the industry who continuously churn out exceptional titles with phenomenal production values along with innovative gameplay mechanics and narrative ideas and yet, doesn’t quite manage to land a surefire hit like it truly deserves. With Remedy’s most recent title FBC: Firebreak falling far behind what the studio had expected it to be, the upcoming Control: Resonant which is set for a Q2 2026 release, could actually turn out to be the title that finally manages to bring the kind of commercial success many players know the studio deserves.
And in a recent interview with The Game Business, the new Remedy CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon has acknowledged that despite being a strong Creative force, the studio “could make some improvements” to ensure their games reach a much wider audience, while also emphasizing how much beloved their games are to many players out there.
“Remedy is one of the few studios which is genuinely supported by players,” Gaudechon said. “Even my announcement was something I loved, because people were protecting Remedy. When I was announced, people from the industry and close friends sent me messages saying things like: ‘JC, that’s awesome. Congrats.’ And the last line was, ‘Don’t f* it up.’ It was: ‘We love Remedy so much. Don’t f* it up.’ That shows you how much people love Remedy.”
“Control, Alan Wake, etc. could give a lot more,” Gaudechon said. “There’s a vision on thinking bigger for some of these IPs, which need to find its audience much, much further than the current audience. It’s super exciting.
“We need to think more about how we are approaching our IPs as a franchise,” he continued. “How do we grow the community? [Our deal with] Annapurna goes into making our games, our franchises shine further and reach an audience that doesn’t exist today.
But if there’s one game or multiple titles that can seriously turn the tide and put Remedy back to the status of videogame superstardom, is the Max Payne trilogy remake which is currently at works in the studio.
