According to a new post on Rockstar Support, GTA 6’s PS5 codes are region-locked while the Xbox versions aren’t, which means if you’re on the Sony platform, your code of the game must be redeemed in the same region as your platform’s account. The official post explains the region-locked situations for GTA 6 PS5 codes in full detail: “The digital download code for Grand Theft Auto VI works differently depending on the platform and country of purchase. It is recommended that you buy and play from a retailer that is in the country of your platform account to avoid potential activation problems.”
The devs have also provided a list of regions where codes bought by players can be used specifically with PlayStation accounts registered in those specific countries, which can be a bit tricky but to make things easier, check out the full list below:
PlayStation: Codes purchased in the following regions are to only be used by users holding an account for PlayStation registered to a specific set of countries as follows:
- Brazil: Brazil
- LATAM: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay
- North America: Canada, United States
- Korea: South Korea
- Japan: Japan
- Product codes in Japan will expire 170 days after the issuance date, which is the launch date (November 19, 2026) due to regional regulations.
- United Kingdom: United Kingdom
- Saudi Arabia & UAE: Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates
- Rest of Asia: Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand

Xbox: Codes purchased are not region-locked.
The Standard edition of GTA 6 will cost $80 while the Ultimate edition comes with a price tag of $100 which also includes a whole array of unlockables ranging from bonus story missions to in-game items, equipment and additional customization. And while the prices are certainly steep for a videogame but when you consider the colossal production value of GTA 6, they do start to feel pretty reasonable.
GTA 6 is slated to launch for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19 with pre-orders going on right now.
