Destiny 2 is finally ending after a very long time, this announcement was very recent and it didn’t really surprise anyone considering it was a topic discussed for years in the gaming community. Bungie isn’t doing well at all, and it is clear they wanna focus those funds on Marathon, which seems to have become quite the irrelevant game in recent days. After all the controversy Bungie has faced for their terrible decisions, it seems that those are coming back for them at last. Destiny 2 will be closing on the 9th of June and players are getting ready to leave.
Destiny 2 is dead
Every single live service game is pretty much condemned to eventually day a death like this, as the name implies these things seem to be made to die to force consumers into the next one. If you stick one of these and make it popular, then a ton of people will jump into the game and give tons of money, however, the risk is extremely high. We have seen in the past years that a ton of new live services attempted becoming relevant, and none of them lived.
Concord will remain as the most important blunder in video game history, a live service that lasted merely some days, showing that people are tired of generic games that offer no value to the medium. And if that example wasn’t enough, Highguard was booed away when it got announced in the Game of the Year awards of 2025, and now it also became a dead game in a matter of weeks. The fate of every live service game is to eventually shutdown and leave people with wasted time and money, there’s industry titans lobbying against regulation for these games, but Stop Killing Games attempts to bring protection for us too.
