Phonopolis is finally out, and it seems to be yet another hit by Amanita Design, who has been making games since the early days of indie PC gaming. The studio is best known for works like Machinarium, and some even remember the time where a ton of profile pictures on Steam and other parts were of the main character. A trailer was released showcasing what we can expect of the game, and since I’ve already covered it many of you might know about it, but for those who aren’t in the know Phonopolis is a game inspired by dystopian works but with a dash of Amanita Design’s own creativity.
Phonopolis seems successful
Phonopolis is out and it currently sits on a 94% review score, which is pretty good and also expected for something coming from the hands of Amanita Design. There’s a ton of things to do and puzzles to solve, and we need to make sure we do it quick before the Leader takes full control over all the city, including Felix who cannot hear commands. We play as Felix, the aforementioned character that will save the day because he managed to resist the Leader, and our mission is to topple him and restore peace to Phonopolis.
The art of the game is genuinely one of the best things ever, which is expected coming from an Amanita Design production, Machinarium surprised many back in the day and it showed us that games can indeed be art. It is great to see a familiar developer still insisting on making quality games in such an era where quality seems to wane, it inspires people to follow these steps and make their own things. It also proves that as always, true indie games are the ones that keep the medium afloat in a sea of conformity and lack of quality.
