For the first time in the history of the franchise, the upcoming GTA 6 will feature a full fledged relationship dynamics between it’s protagonist duo–Jason and Lucia which can also be taken in multiple directions based on your preference and in-game choices. And even though building up their relationship can be hugely time consuming, the game will also allow you to cause break-up between them, which goes to show that in GTA 6, the dynamics between the playable characters is just as much open-ended as it’s gigantic world.
In Youtuber TGG’s latest video where he reveals lots of totally new and exciting details on the most anticipated videogame of all time, it’s been confirmed that Jason and Lucia can break-up in-game and stop being a couple altogether. Also, it’s completely up to the player’s preference whether they want to pursue a romantic relationship between the two or a purely professional one.
But either way, the protagonist duo will still remain partners-in-crime for the game’s storyline, which is sort of obvious. Also, you can play around with their relationship in lots of subtle ways such as deciding to tell something to Jason/Lucia, or not, which can have consequences later and affect their overall chemistry in unexpected ways. This meta element in GTA 6 will also pave the way for more non-linear playthroughs and replayability than it’s been possible with any other entry in the franchise.
However, you can also skip the relationship part entirely if you want to, so there’s that too, which makes GTA 6 even more of an open ended experience than we think.
During an exclusive interview with IGN, Rockstar North co-studio head, Rob Nelson has described how the in-game relationship works in detail:
“When you bring them together, it feels like you’re a steward of their relationship, and you feel protective of them as a unit,” he said. “But this is something we did not know when we started, and it really had to be something we felt our way through. But I will say that whether you’re getting in trouble, or you’re running from the cops, or getting in a car, or waiting for the other one — playing as them together feels very cool. It feels like you’re taking care of them, if that’s something you’re into.”
GTA 6 is currently slated to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
