Rockstar Games is preparing to take its promotional campaign directly to the real-life city that inspired its latest virtual playground. The City of Miami Beach has narrowly approved negotiations to allow Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games to launch an extensive marketing drive ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6‘s scheduled November release. Passing by a tight 4-3 city council vote, the proposed $4 million deal will bring discreet advertising to coastal hotspots across the city.
The campaign will rely on subtle branding rather than loud logos, placing subtle references like “Vice City” and the Roman numeral “VI” across Boucher Brothers beach chairs and sun umbrellas. However, strict boundaries remain in place to keep commercial promotions off public city landmarks. According to reporting by Eurogamer, the effort marks one of the most ambitious real-world marketing tie-ins in modern gaming history, bridging the gap between Vice City and its physical counterpart.
Parallel efforts are expanding the campaign across the wider metropolitan area. As detailed in a report by journalist Francisco Alvarado on X (formerly Twitter), Rockstar, Miami-Dade County, and Miami Heat affiliate Basketball Properties are currently finalizing plans to mount a massive Vice City sign atop the roof of the Kaseya Center. If approved, the entire regional marketing rollout is slated to begin on October 15 and run through the end of the year.
The initiative has not proceeded without pushback from local law enforcement and civic leadership. Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez have voiced strong opposition, arguing that promoting a franchise built around criminal themes compromises public safety efforts. Despite these political friction points, Rockstar continues to ramp up momentum following its recent 26-minute showcase, setting the stage for one of the largest entertainment launches of the decade.
