During today’s Nintendo Direct Showcase, Nintendo officially revealed a special 40th Anniversary Legend of Zelda edition Nintendo Switch 2 console alongside the release date for the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. The new system will hit store shelves on October 29, 2026, setting the stage for the remake’s launch just one week later on November 5.
The special edition hardware sports a custom green, black, and gold finish applied across the console, dock, and Joy-Con controllers. Rather than simply placing a logo onto standard hardware, the design incorporates aesthetic elements directly inspired by the long-running franchise. To complement the system, Nintendo is releasing a matching Switch 2 Pro Controller, a carrying case, and a retail-exclusive display stand bundle, all scheduled to launch on October 29.
First teased in June following weeks of industry rumors, the Ocarina of Time remake served as the centerpiece of the Direct, where Nintendo finally shared extensive gameplay footage. To mark the occasion, pre-orders have opened for a special physical edition featuring textured foil cover art. Furthermore, two new amiibo figures—featuring Young Link with Navi and Young Zelda—were announced for a 2027 release. Scanning these figures will grant players cosmetic in-game masks that replicate the original 1998 Nintendo 64 polygonal character models.
The double announcement caps off a series of planned commemorative releases for The Legend of Zelda, which original creator Shigeru Miyamoto launched in February 1986. With both dedicated themed hardware and a ground-up remake of one of the industry’s most influential titles, Nintendo is positioning the 40th anniversary celebration as its primary anchor for the upcoming holiday shopping season.
