Microsoft is working on a long-demanded feature to revamp its Xbox Achievement system, introducing a reward tier equivalent to PlayStation’s coveted Platinum Trophies. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed the news in a response to a user on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that the team is actively developing a solution slated for release later this year.
Since Microsoft introduced Gamerscore on the Xbox 360 in 2005, completionists have lacked a singular visual marker to signify fully mastering a game. While Sony’s ecosystem rewards players who unlock every base trophy with a Platinum Trophy, Xbox players only receive a higher total Gamerscore. DLC additions and post-launch updates often obscure completion status further, diluting the satisfaction of finishing a base game’s achievement list.
The announcement arrived alongside a broader Xbox system update aimed at improving player fulfillment. The latest software patch introduces voice chat support for game clips, improved cloud save controls, persistent wishlist items, and streamlined navigation for viewing unlocked achievements. These incremental updates reflect a broader effort by leadership to address community feedback submitted through the Xbox Player Voice program, prioritizing features that players have requested for over a decade.
While Microsoft has not yet detailed how the new completion reward will function alongside existing Gamerscore, the initiative marks a significant structural change for Xbox’s reward framework. It remains unclear how post-launch expansion achievements will impact a game’s completion status, or whether retroactive rewards will be awarded to players who have already maxed out their games. Further details regarding the official rollout, naming convention, and visual design are expected before the end of the year.
