Fangamer has officially opened pre-orders for a physical edition of Stardew Valley on the Nintendo Switch 2, priced at $39 ahead of its planned February 2027 release. The news arrives alongside confirmation that the physical release will include a full-color, classic-style instruction manual, a reversible cover featuring JojaMart artwork, and forward compatibility that allows the cartridge to function on the original Nintendo Switch hardware.
While the $39 physical price tag sits noticeably higher than the digital version’s standard $14.99 cost, the release aims directly at collectors and physical media enthusiasts. Indie titles rarely receive physical treatments equipped with traditional manuals and printed extras anymore, making this standalone release a notable exception as the games industry continues its rapid transition toward digital-only storefronts.
The upcoming Switch 2 release brings several exclusive feature upgrades to Eric Barone’s widely acclaimed farming simulator. Players can look forward to expanded local co-op supporting up to four players on a single split screen, along with online multiplayer lobbies that expand the total player count to eight. The new edition also takes advantage of system-level features like GameShare, enabling multiple users to join multiplayer sessions using a single copy of the game, alongside updated mouse controls enabled by the Joy-Con 2 hardware.
Originally launched on PC in 2016 before migrating to console and mobile platforms, Stardew Valley remains one of the most successful independent titles in gaming history. While developer ConcernedApe continues to maintain the farming sim with updates, he is also actively developing his next standalone project, Haunted Chocolatier, which focuses on crafting confectionery goods and managing a haunted shop.
