Broadsword Online Games has revealed that Update 8.0 for Star Wars: The Old Republic will officially be titled Masters of the Force. Designed as a major narrative and mechanical overhaul, the upcoming expansion kicks off the “Galaxy in Chaos” arc, tackling the wide-scale fallout left behind by Darth Malgus’s galactic transmissions. Both the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire are left scrambling as Force-sensitive populations across the galaxy grow increasingly restless.
The centerpiece of the update is the long-awaited introduction of Ryloth, the Outer Rim homeworld of the Twi’leks. Players will explore the rugged terrain while facing off against local hostile factions and the Hutt Cartel. To keep exploration engaging, the new zone features Dynamic Encounters scattered throughout the environment, giving players evolving objectives while traversing the planet.
Beyond new story content, Update 8.0 introduces structural changes to character progression and world design. The overall level cap is rising to 85, accompanied by fresh abilities for every combat discipline. Overworld areas will now offer selectable Story, Veteran, and Master difficulty modes, allowing players to tailor open-world challenges to their liking. Furthermore, the Ventures system is expanding with Classic and Expert paths, offering dedicated progression lines and distinct rewards for veteran players.
Group content receives a substantial boost with the addition of the “Children of Nul” Operation. Designed for eight-player groups, the endgame activity centers around three boss encounters tied to the dark legacy of Darth Nul. Broadsword has confirmed that the first boss encounter is already undergoing testing on the Public Test Server ahead of the update’s release, with live Developer Let’s Plays planned in the coming months to demonstrate the full feature set.
