Alleged gameplay footage of Grand Theft Auto 6 published by the leaker group CyberLeek indicates that Rockstar Games is reworking how law enforcement tracks down players during high-speed pursuits. Instead of relying solely on a basic star rating, the leaked material shows a brand-new suspect-identification mechanic designed to make police encounters more dynamic and reactive.
According to the footage, three distinct icons pop up beneath the wanted bar whenever protagonist Jason becomes a target for law enforcement. The icons—representing a clothes hanger, a human silhouette, and a vehicle—appear to track what police officers actually know about the suspect in real time. If true, this mechanic means cops won’t automatically know who you are; instead, they will target your current outfit, your facial features, or the specific car you are driving.
This level of memory-based AI suggests that cosmetics and customization in GTA 6 will play a far greater role in core gameplay mechanics rather than serving as mere visual flair. Changing clothes, ditching a vehicle, or wearing a mask during a robbery could actively break a police line of sight and lower suspect recognition. Civilian NPCs also appear to function as active witnesses, capable of reporting player descriptions directly to the authorities based on what they see at the crime scene.
While a recognition system of this nature is a significant evolutionary step for the Grand Theft Auto franchise, similar mechanics have appeared in older titles like Mafia II. However, integrating this multi-tiered identification framework into a modern open-world setting could drastically alter how players approach high-stakes crimes and escape tactics. Rockstar Games has yet to officially confirm these features ahead of the game’s scheduled release on November 19, 2026.
