CD Projekt Red has increased the price of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from $39.99 to $49.99 across all platforms, adjusting the base price just one month before the studio releases its upcoming current-gen remaster.
The unannounced $10 price adjustment caught players by surprise on digital storefronts this week. Despite the unexpected change, existing owners will not be affected by the price hike. The studio confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, scheduled to launch on Tuesday, September 29, will arrive as a free update for anyone who owns the base game on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X/S. The remaster introduces revamped visuals, updated user interface menus, a redesigned skill tree, and targeted gameplay adjustments.
While price increases years after launch are uncommon in the games industry, the current $49.99 package now bundled with the base game carries significantly more content than the original 2015 release. Buying The Witcher 3 today includes both major expansion packs—Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine—at no additional cost. When the title originally launched in May 2015, the base game retailed at $59.99, while the expansion pass required an extra $25 purchase.
The pricing overhaul comes during an exceptionally active period for the Polish developer. Beyond the ongoing production of The Witcher 4, which remains scheduled for a 2028 release window, CD Projekt Red is preparing to launch a new narrative expansion titled Songs of the Past. Set in the Letten region, the expansion promises new romance options and is positioned as the final chapter in Geralt of Rivia’s storyline. Players looking to buy the game before the remaster launches can still find temporary discounts on select storefronts, including GOG, which currently lists the Complete Edition for $24.99.
