Atomic Heart finally removes Denuvo from its files, freeing up the game and making it possible to preserve it. It was definitely a game that needed this because performance can be hampered for people who legally acquired the game. It is a surprise that this happened so late into the lifecycle of it, but we never know if it was some sort of contract they had, or they believed they could get away with it for longer. I understand wanting to protect your creations, unfortunately you have to do it right and not rely on Denuvo for it, there can be better solutions.
Atomic Heart can be preserved
Trying to preserve games nowadays is an uphill battle, as attempts to do so have been thwarted by always online services that prevent us from rescuing games that eventually die. Thankfully this isn’t the case for Atomic Heart, because it is mainly a single player game that can be preserved via a variety of ways. Now we also grapple with yet another issue that nobody expected would happen, the termination of physical media sets a very grim prospect that we need to fight against. Sony decided that we shouldn’t be able to own what we buy on a disc anymore.
This is insane, many people who are fans of games just buy their physical copies because they want to keep playing them forever without any issue. Not to mention that there is also a market for used games that needs to provide enough for everyone if we wanna keep the medium healthy. Unfortunately Sony and many other companies want to move us to an all digital reality where we are just strapped to our PCs to consume media without stopping. It is insane to see how far the PlayStation brand has fallen.
