Ubisoft Quietly Patches Out Infamous 'Kassandra Pose' in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced

Ubisoft has issued a stealth update for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced that begins cleaning up one of the franchise’s most persistent visual annoyances: the dreaded “Kassandra Pose.” While the publisher hasn’t released full patch notes detailing every change, players quickly noticed that Edward Kenway no longer defaults to the rigid, weight-shifted idle stance during several updated dialogue sequences. It is a minor visual adjustment on paper, but for longtime fans who have watched this single asset permeate virtually every Ubisoft release since 2018, its removal marks a very welcome quality-of-life polish.

Ubisoft replaced the robotic hands on hip pose for Edward in this specific cutscene.

Yes, it's an improvement. However, Edward will always look a bit uncanny in the new content regardless of the stance, mostly because we aren't used to seeing him with robotic movement. Still got… pic.twitter.com/5Go5y6Ticd

The stance earned its colloquial name following the massive launch of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, where protagonist Kassandra repeatedly adopted the awkward contrapposto position during procedural cutscenes. Given the RPG’s massive length, players logged hundreds of hours watching her strike the exact same pose across thousands of dialogue trees. The issue wasn’t necessarily the animation itself, but rather its relentless reuse. Over the years, Ubisoft began porting the asset into subsequent Assassin’s Creed installments and other internal properties, making it an immersion-breaking staple of the publisher’s engine pipeline.

When Black Flag Resynced released to critical acclaim earlier this month, early players were dismayed to see Edward Kenway taking on the familiar posture in newly added narrative content. Standing alongside original cutscenes—which were fully motion-captured back in 2013—the automated, robotic stance stuck out like a sore thumb against Kenway’s naturally swaggering, pirate demeanor.

Community tracking initially flagged the fix after update files adjusted cutscene framing, replacing the procedural stance with more natural character staging. While it is unlikely Ubisoft will completely overhaul every single instance of procedural animation across the massive game, targeting the most egregious occurrences demonstrates a keen awareness of fan feedback. With Assassin’s Creed Hexe currently slated for a 2027 window, addressing these minor visual grievances goes a long way toward restoring goodwill in the franchise’s technical presentation.
