Pragmata definitely defied expectations, and it managed to sell more than 2.5 million copies, this is an amazing milestone to accomplish considering the game isn’t tied to any other IP, just a known developer. New games that do fresh things are important for the industry, and trying to just tie it to some old IP is just an empty way of succeeding, because the name carries the product. Thankfully Capcom didn’t rely on that, and now they are cooking a potential new IP with a game many agree is fresh. Gaming was in desperate need of something new that didn’t feel derivative.
Pragmata becomes huge success
Pragmata might have been one of the biggest risks Capcom took recently, and honestly I’m very happy to see them trying out new things and concepts. Games can get a bit dull when the new IP is rehashing ideas from older IPs that didn’t succeed and not changing them. The reason why the bigger side of the industry can’t really compete against indie games creativity wise is because they are busy playing their cards too safely to even make something worth looking forward to. Thankfully Capcom understood that people were getting bored of the same, so they gave us something new.
I don’t know if this will lead to some sort of sequel, or perhaps transforming Pragmata into an IP that can spawn sequels and multiple merchandise, ideally they don’t do this. Many games are hidden gems that didn’t need to have sequels, so I’m glad that for the time being, we might not get anything new regarding Pragmata, because sequels sometimes run into the risk of tarnishing what the original game envisioned. Regardless, we can all agree that Pragmata was a great game, and we should be looking forward to new stuff coming from the hands of Capcom.
