Capcom Reaches A Total of 93% Digital Sales in 2026

Capcom seems to be one of the companies that’s spearheading the digital revolution of videogames right now, based on the astounding figures from it’s latest financial report that states a massive 93.3% of it’s total sales recorded through Q1 of the current fiscal year has been digital while physical sales have amounted to only a meager 6.7%. Capcom’s overall sales numbers were also greatly bolstered by the runaway success of this year’s Resident Evil Requiem, which has sold past 8 million units and is expected to go even further throughout the year.

Also, more than 60% of it’s digital sales came from the PC while 32.9% were from consoles which isn’t really much of a surprise as disc-based physical sales were on the decline for the better half of the past decade on the PC, although it’s still quite noticeable.

In Q1 FY27, Pragmata, a newly launched IP from Capcom has sold 2.5 million units so far while the lion’s share of sales is driven by Resident Evil Requiem, although older titles such as Resident Evil 7, Monster Hunter Wilds and even Devil May Cry 5 continues to do fairly well in terms of sales units.

And although Capcom’s current-year sales are staggering, they are less than 2025 when their total digital sales were a whopping 95.2%.

However, Capcom’s surge in digital sales numbers do make a case in favor of Sony’s all-digital-future as the company has decided to effectively stop all production of discs from 2028. Sony had claimed an 85% digital sales margin as the deciding factor for their current direction towards physical media which could alter the entire industry as we know it and have ramifications for years to come.

In other news of Capcom, due to the solid commercial success of this year’s Pragmata, there are currently talks of a sequel as according to Bloomberg, Capcom corporate officer Yoshikazu Shimauchi has “said the likelihood of a sequel is high, raising the prospect that Capcom could develop the title into another pillar franchise and a source of longer-term revenue.”
