Blizzard Announces Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026, Targeting Spring 2029 Release

Blizzard Entertainment took the stage at BlizzCon 2026 to officially reveal Diablo 5, marking the next mainline installment in the long-running action role-playing franchise. Unveiled during the opening ceremony as part of the series’ 30th anniversary celebrations, the upcoming sequel shifts the narrative focus directly back to the Lord of Terror. The game is currently scheduled to launch in Spring 2029, landing roughly six years after the release of Diablo 4.

The announcement comes on the heels of Diablo 4 concluding its major “Age of Hatred” storyline following the defeat of Mephisto in the recent Lord of Hatred expansion. Rather than following the traditional framework where players attempt to avert total annihilation, Diablo 5 explores a world where Diablo has already succeeded in tearing Sanctuary apart. Blizzard teased that the game will focus heavily on the aftermath of this devastation, forcing players to navigate a realm where chaos and horror are already fully established.

While specific class details and mechanical overhauls remain under wraps, Blizzard clarified that ongoing support for Diablo 4 will continue alongside the sequel’s production. The current title is entering Season 15, which reintroduces classic items like the Stone of Jordan alongside iconic characters like Deckard Cain. Furthermore, Blizzard confirmed that the Amazon class—first introduced in Diablo 2—will officially join the Diablo 4 roster in 2027.

The reveal establishes a firm timeline for the future of the franchise after years of ongoing content updates and expansions. Additional media projects were also highlighted during the convention, including an upcoming Diablo Immortal collaboration with Todd McFarlane’s Spawn, as well as broader cross-media adaptations. With a multi-year development period ahead, Blizzard plans to share further details on Diablo 5 systems, art direction, and gameplay mechanics as production progresses toward the 2029 target.
