Bungie Disables Divinity in Destiny 2's Pantheon Following Game-Breaking Encounter Exploit

Bungie is officially disabling the Exotic trace rifle Divinity in Destiny 2’s Pantheon activity following the discovery of a game-breaking exploit. The restriction, set to go live with the July 7 hotfix, specifically targets the Insurrection Prime encounter. Players had discovered that they could position themselves safely at the activity’s spawn point and apply Divinity’s weakening cage to the boss from afar, allowing fireteams to bypass the encounter’s core mechanics entirely and secure easy clears.

The exploit quickly disrupted the game’s Looking For Group (LFG) ecosystem. Over the past week, community forums and matchmaking channels became inundated with posts demanding players utilize the cheese strategy, with fireteams routinely kicking individuals who attempted to run the encounter as originally designed. To protect the integrity of the endgame activity, Bungie chose to pull the weapon from the encounter altogether, meaning players must now complete the boss fight using legitimate mechanics.

This sudden restriction highlights the current fragile state of Destiny 2’s live-service support. Following a wave of high-profile layoffs at Bungie that heavily impacted the development team, resources for ongoing maintenance have been severely limited. Representatives from the studio previously warned that future technical issues would likely result in items being permanently disabled rather than patched, a reality already mirrored by the permanent Crucible bans handed down to two armor sets from the Grasp of Avarice and Duality dungeons.

While losing Divinity removes a premier debuff tool from legitimate strategy loadouts, players still have options to optimize their damage output. The studio noted that alternative weakening methods remain widely available, particularly through the various seasonal Artifact mods accessible via the Monument of Triumph. Items like the Tractor Cannon, tether abilities, and specialized grenade launcher loadouts will likely fill the void left by the trace rifle as players adapt to the restriction in the final days of the activity.
