SteamOS gets amazing 3.8 version release in 2026

SteamOS

SteamOS is getting better and better as time goes on, and if you are scared of Linux it is a pretty good version to put into your main PC if you consider Valve to be a 100% trustworthy company (spoilers, no company really is). The Linux revolution threatens the Windows ecosystem, but the big wigs who control the market are very aware of this, so they are trying to undermine the quality of open source tools with AI slop despite it breaking things. If you own an old computer that is unable to upgrade to Windows, you should really jump the ship and go for Linux instead.

SteamOS gets better

A big thing added to this new version of SteamOS is the fact that it now support compatibility with new peripherals that will release with the Steam Machine. This is huge considering that we will need all of the driver support possible so people can start developing VR games with Linux as a base. Now, VR gaming will be even less constrained, the only thing we need is for people to make actual good games for the platform, cause so far there isn’t any really. Regardless, I still feel like VR will remain a niche.

SteamOS however isn’t a niche, and every Valve product you buy such as the Steam Deck, and the future Steam Machine, are running on it, which makes Linux into something more mainstream too. The only reason people use Windows is because the majority of computers come pre installed with it, so people are forced onto it against their will. With enough perseverance, one can tinker around with the hardest Linux distributions to handle, but if you are a newbie jumping into Linux Mint, Debian, or even SteamOS itself will make the journey way more easier to handle.
