A recent online petition aimed at reviving the Destiny franchise and to greenlight the next entry in the series namely Destiny 3, has acquired a record number lately which manages to surpass even the peak player count of Marathon, Bungie’s current online multiplayer title. It was revealed last year that Destiny 2 won’t receive any more updates and was practically at it’s last days and Bungie moved on with Marathon despite a rather underwhelming reception from both longtime and newer fans.
But between all of this, an online petition calling out to publisher Sony for developing Destiny 3 was launched and now it has gained a massive momentum too, surpassing a total of 170,000 signatures as of yet with the numbers expected to grow a lot higher real soon. And considering Marathon’s peak player count was somewhere between 130,000 and 150,000 players in the game’s launch week, the total number of signatures for the petition seems even more impressive.
The creator of the petition, Harley Casto, has stated that “the desire for new adventures, fresh storylines, and innovative gameplay features is palpable among players everywhere.”
“We believe in the potential of Destiny 3 to inspire new generations of gamers and to keep the fire of the Guardian spirit alive,” Casto continued. “Join us in petitioning Sony to take this leap forward. Sign the petition to show your support for Destiny 3 and help us bring our love for this series to the next level. Together, let’s make Destiny 3 a reality.”
But even with the high numbers, the likelihood of Destiny 3 is still up in the air as according to Bloomberg, developer Bungie is expected to go through significant layoffs in the near future as a side effect of the end of support for Destiny 2 which puts a huge question mark to the future of the series as well.
