It seems Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which is supposed to come out in 2027 as the next mainline entry in Ubisoft’s long running open world action adventure franchise, is currently going through a rocky development period as it’s just been revealed that the title has lost it’s Game Director along with 50 developers who were working on the project. Benoit Richer, the Game Director of Assassin’s Creed Hexe, has announced the news on LinkedIn, stating that he’s currently relocating to an Indie studio:
“This is the beginning of a new chapter: I’m joining Servo Games as Game Director!” he said. “An indie studio of industry veterans, aligned around a shared vision of the industry and experience creation, with a strong complementary skill set.”
Richer had been working as a Game Director for Ubisoft since 2017 and has spent seven years at Warner Bros. Games as a director before that.
Also, Ubisoft has decided to scale down the development team for Assassin’s Creed Hexe and as a result, a total of 50 employees have been removed from the project and have been moved to Ubisoft’s interproject team.
“According to sources familiar with the matter, members of the Interproject team are required to secure a project at Ubisoft within a three-month period, or they could face redundancy,” based on a recent report by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson. The report also states that this decision was made in order to lower the budget of Assassin’s Creed Hexe and the members of the interproject team at Ubisoft “are required to secure a project at Ubisoft within a three-month period, or they could face redundancy.”
And in a response to IGN regarding the displacement of employees, a Ubisoft spokesperson has stated the following: “Mobility across teams is a standard part of how we operate,” a Ubisoft spokesperson said. “As project priorities change, team members may transition from one project to another where their expertise is needed, helping us stay flexible and responsive as work evolves.”
But even though Assassin’s Creed Hexe is all set to be the next big thing from the franchise, all eyes are now on the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced which has an overhauled combat system that feels a whole lot more fluid and seamless while also featuring a more intuitive HUD with two mini-menus in each bottom corner which allows for seamless switching between the different types of weapons and items. The newly reworked combat system, along with multiple bonus story contents that weren’t part of the original release, are sure to be highlights in the modernized version of the iconic Black Flag.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is slated to be released on July 9th.
