Amazon has announced several key changes to it’s cloud-based gaming service Luna that are going to affect all users, especially those with third party purchases and subscriptions. Starting yesterday, Amazon Luna will no longer offer game stores (including EA, Ubisoft or GOG), third party subscriptions or even individual game purchases which sounds pretty divisive, although the company has stated that all of the changes are being done on the basis of feedback from a large number of players.
And though you can still play the games you have already purchased, you’ll be able to do so only til June 10 and after that, those titles won’t be accessible from Luna, ever.
“At Amazon, we’re always looking for ways to better serve our players,” the company stated. “Your feedback has been clear: you want easy access to great games, more social experiences, and a steady flow of new content from developers you know and love.”
“As our library continues to grow, more of that content is available to Prime members-and that’s where we’re focusing our future.”
Amazon has also stated that it won’t be providing refunds for purchases of “a-la-carte titles through Luna,” and the only way you can access third-party titles is by linking into the respective accounts instead. If you have any Ubisoft+ or Jackbox Games subscription purchased through Luna, you can only renew it for one final time before it gets automatically cancelled. And in case you want to keep them, you’ll need to go through their respective channels to sign up again.
“We’re doubling down on a broad range of gaming experiences,” the company said, “including strong third-party titles, delivered in ways that make great games more accessible, as well as new and unique gaming experiences like GameNight.”
Moreover, the Bring Your Own Library feature will also be removed starting from June 3 and if you need to import save data for your titles, you have a limited time window to do all that after June 10.
